Have just finished reading Sex Slaves - the trafficking of women in Asia by Louise Brown.
There have been many passages that I wanted to type out here into this blog but I've decided that they all need to be read in context with the rest of the book.
Louise Brown does not pull any punches when it comes to pointing out the blame towards the politicians, the customers and the men (and it is mainly men) who profit from these women's terrible lives.
Perhaps this should be compulsive reading for any man (not just Western Men) before he heads off into Wanchai girly bars.
"Trafficking in humans for the sex industry has been practised for centuries. What is new is the scale of the trade, the ages of those involved and the organization applied to the marketing. This text looks behind the wholesomeness of "Asian values" to reveal them as a contributor to the industry"
Discombobulated: To be thrown into a state of confusion.

I just did a review for Asian Review of Books about a book that leans heavily on the sex trade in Thailand for its resources. I find that the problem goes deeper than the economy and into the psyche of men.
Or, is it rather that the economy and the political systems privilege power over interiority? What do you think?
This is an interesting read too.
