Consumer debt tops £1 trillion
The amount of money Britons owe broke through the £1 trillion barrier during June.
Consumers have now collectively borrowed £1,004 trillion through mortgages, personal loans, overdrafts, hire purchase agreements and on credit and debit cards.
People took on an additional £11.23 billion of debt during June, borrowing money at a rate of around £1 million every four minutes.
Discombobulated: To be thrown into a state of confusion.
