Just had supper with some flying through HK friends, they were staying at the Mandarin so went up to the top floor for some Roast Duck....... yumm
What was great to witness was how wonderfully friendly the waiters were towards the two young, tired, fractious, jetlagged boys who had just flown in from down under and who were flying on to Paris. The 9 year old was very interested in the Chinese language and was overjoyed when the waiter wrote out the Peking Duck characters for him to try and copy.
The boys complemented the waiters on being able to write all those difficult words so fast and speak so quickly. Then they taught them some French phrases. It was pure entertainment and I don't mean that I'm taking the piss, it really was great watching a HK guy learning French from a bilingual English/French child. He even wrote down a few phrases on his note pad. The boys were well chuffed. And the duck was yummy.
Discombobulated: To be thrown into a state of confusion.
