Sugar

I'm a sugar addict I freely admit, the evil white stuff has me in its clutches, in the past** I've been known to sit and eat sugar lumps after dinner while others drink their coffee. But this recent advert by CX strikes me as just plain stupid, for those that haven't seen it there is a small child who chants "are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet" from the moment the parents get the suitcases packed, till they drop into an exhausted sleep on the plane. Surrounded by other exhausted passengers - still the child keeps asking "are we there yet?"
So what does the stewardess do! She gives him a tub of ice cream. Great! Take one hyper active child + parents who have left child unsupervised* on a long haul flight, hmmmmm what could make this any worse! YES give said child a tub of ice cream! Ok Ok so I know its an advert, but I've seen it done so many times, parents have battled to calm down a child and some well meaning adult comes along, thinks they are helping and gives them some 'devil powder'.

Sugar + Children does not = calm or relaxed!

*a personal bugbare of mine!

**before my hypno sessions ........ Something for another post perhaps!

I saw that ad last night. It made want to avoid Cathay even more than I did before. In real life, the other passengers would be sitting bolt upright, unable to sleep, looking daggers at the parents and their screaming lifestyle choice, and wishing that the aircraft door would open and suck the inconsiderate bastards out.

I believe in stratified pricing, something the airlines are already good at, so that seats near children get a hefty discount, and that those causing the discount (the parents) make up the difference in the form of a hefty premuium. Alternatively, have a separate section at the back or in the hold for brats and parents so they can suffer in isolation.

Kate, its not so much the child that bugs me (although it would if I were sat near it) its that so many STUPID people think that giving hyper children sugar is a good thing. Honestly!!!!!!
