No small businessman with a brain would ever employ a lady of child-bearing age," said Euro MP Godfrey Bloom, single-handedly reigniting tensions in the age-old battle of the sexes.
Perhaps sensing his comment had piqued media interest, he added flippantly, that women needed to do a better job of looking after the home. "I quite simply feel that they don't clean behind the fridge," said Mr Bloom, of the UK Independence Party, on his first day in the European Parliament.
See what Helen has to say about him.
Only time will tell if Mr Bloom is remembered for his comments, but plenty more pronouncements on the subject have made it to the record books.
Here are some of the most notable despatches from the gender war or words.

Is that a gender war issue or merely a recognition that the system of rights for employees in Europe is a very expensive form of indirect taxation for the employer? Maybe he's saying not that we should discriminate against women but that it's just too expensive to hire them when they go out on maternity leave for, in Norway say, a year. As I re-read this, I really think he's pointing to the costs of government mandated unfunded benefits and the burdens they place on small business.
Sorry, that was me, above.

Actually, I withdraw the above. Putting dinner on the table? Whacko. He's not standing up for small business, like I had hoped and which could be suggested if he'd limited his comments to the first one, he's a nut job. I went and read the whole article because I did not understand the fridge comment. So, sorry, withdrawn!
