I was walking past a jewellers and a pretty pair of earrings caught my eye, now even though I only wear gold I do only wear a few pieces of jewelry, a watch, a simple necklace, a finger ring and another ring.
It's been years since I wore any earrings and my earlobes have closed up (*shudders* at where that thought just took me) but I liked the look of these and have been meaning to get my ears re pierced for a while now, so it seemed like the right moment.
I watched a young teenage girl sit on 'the' chair and have her ears done, the assistant obviously took great care in making sure the piercings were level with each other (which my original ones were not - just one of the reasons I stopped wearing earrings years ago). She skipped away with her mother very happy and wearing pretty earrings very similar to the ones I had picked out.
Then it was my turn.
The 'piercing expert' as it said on her badge was Annie and Annie was very very careful to position up my head so it was level, then she took out her felt tip pen and put a dot where she would puncture me, but she wasn't happy with the left one, so she got a cloth and wiped that dot of and choose her spot again and again and again!
Finally she was happy with the position of the left lobe dot but now she wasn't happy with the right one, so she wiped that clean and tried again and again.
Eventually she handed me the mirror and asked if I was in agreement that these felt tip dots on my ears were perfectly lined up. I thought they were and to be honest even if I didn't by this time she had tried so hard I would have agreed for her sake anyway.
So then she asked which earrings I wanted, I pointed out #42, she sadly shock her head and I thought that the teenager had taken the last sterile pair, BUT no, she said my ear lobes were too fat for those earrings and I would have to have some from the 'extra long rod' section ..... well I've got nothing against extra long rods (hmmmm I wonder if that will get me any google hits!) but was a tad sad to see that all the extra long rods (just in case it does, I'll type it again) were plain white gold which was not what I wanted at all.
Perhaps felt tip dots would be the closest I got today after all! But then Annie remembered she had another selection of extra long rods (and no they were not extra wide as well) in her other drawer, she found them, I found a pair I liked although they were not as pretty as the ones the teenager had but never mind and then we were in business once again.
She lined up her piercing gun against the dots and shot me. That was it. Easy as that.
After hearing how I need to clean (3 times daily) and turn (3 times daily) my new earrings for the next 9 weeks (9 seems like an unusual number to chose) and how I shouldn't swim this week (gggrrrrrr didn't think about that!) I was free to pay and leave. And so I did.
Now of course I will just wait and see if anyone notices.
And in 9 weeks time I can go choose one of these for my next set.
Discombobulated: To be thrown into a state of confusion.
